MLB PitchHit&Run

2019 MLB PitchHit&Run Rules*

Thunder Baseball League (TBL) is proud to be offering MLB Pitch Hit & Run for boy's and girl's in 2018. See for more details.

This event is open to all Thunder Baseball or Thunder Softball members.  Players age will be determined by age as of July 17, 2019.  MLB Pitch Hit & Run Local edition is scheduled to coincide with TBL Picture day on April 22, 2019 at Broomfield Industrial Park (BIP).

Each team will be assigned a time by TBL for pictures by Champ Photography.  Picture times will be sent to team managers and posted on the TBL website the second week of April. Picture packets will be available the day of pictures and you can visit for more information.  After completion of team pictures, players interested in participating in the MLB Pitch Hit &Run event should head over to the registration desk.

All participants must have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form at check-in.  Boys and girls, ages 7-14 will be grouped into 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 with boys and girls competing SEPARATELY.  (No metal spikes are allowed).

All parents and spectators should remain off the field at all times. This program is free of charge, in an exciting baseball/softball skills competition in the safest atmosphere possible.  Pitch Hit & Run is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the “FUN” element of baseball/softball.

PITCH-Each competitor receives six (6) attempts to hit the designated “Strike Zone” from 45 feet away for boys and 35 feet for girls.  Competitors must start from the pitching rubber and deliver to strike zone target which is (17” x 30”) measured 20 inches from the ground.  Each attempt hitting ANY portion of the “Strike Zone” target is worth 75 points.

HIT-Each competitor receives three (3) swings in an attempt to hit the ball off a tee.  Only the best of the three attempts, as determined by the administrator will count toward a competitors score.  A swing and a miss count as one attempt.  A running start is not permitted.  A competitor that fails to hit will get a minimum score of 50 points.  Spotters A & B stand on opposite sides of a tape measure, holding several flags/bean bags to mark the initial landing of the batted balls.  Spotter A calculates the inaccuracy of the hit and the distance traveled.  Distance traveled but the ball lands ten (10) feet to the left of the measuring tape.  The score would be 130-10 =120 feet.  The conversion table would be referenced and convert to 120 feet to 240 points.

RUN-Each competitor will start at second base from a standing start, and begin running when the admin yells GO!  The runner will be timed from the moment he/she leaves second base, touches anchored third base, and touches home plate.  No sliding is allowed.  Total distance for boys is 160 feet and the girls 120 feet.  Standard distance between bases in the boys division is 80 feet and the girls is 60 feet.  Times to the nearest 1/100 will be converted to points.  Example: A competitors 9.50 second time equals 100 points.

*Administration reserves the right to modify the program at any time.

Bats for a Cure 2018

July 30, 2018

Baseball Families and Community Members,

The Thunder Baseball Board of Directors would like to thank you for supporting Thunder Baseball League and Susan G. Komen Colorado “Bats for a Cure” Tournament.  Our program is about promoting good character, developing young player’s skills in a positive manner and preparing for high school baseball and beyond. We owe our success to the wonderful support of community members like you.

We had a two hundred fifty-seven (257) baseball teams during our seventh annual Susan G. Komen Colorado – CABA Colorado “Bats for a Cure” Baseball Tournament on June 1-3, 2018.   All donations and specific portions of registration fees, shirt, socks, and hat sales are dedicated to Susan G. Komen Colorado©.

Lynne and Shawn Williamson delivered the check in the amount of $23,137.63 on July 24 to Komen Colorado, located at 50 S. Steele Street, Suite 100, Denver, CO 80209.  We are honored and humbled by the opportunity to help men and women of Colorado fight breast cancer.  Since 2012, Thunder Baseball has raised $123,566.46 for Komen Colorado.

Our mission is to help develop youth into active community members using sports as the vehicle.  To support this goal, we give back to the community by supporting Broomfield High School Sports Gala, giveSPORTS, A Precious Child, and Broomfield FISH.  We are providing financial support, scholarships, volunteers, and a collection location to drop off gently used sporting equipment.  With your ongoing support, Thunder Baseball will continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of youth and families in our community.  Thank you again for your generous contributions.

Fall Ball

Fall Ball 2018:

July 1, 2018--Fall Ball Registration Opens. Accepting COACHES applications now!

Click on the REGISTER NOW button on the home page and choose the right program.

August 17th Friday--Fall Ball Registration closes.

August 25th -- Fall Ball Teams set and coaches notified by September 1, 2018.

No games on Labor Day Weekend - September 3, 2018.

September 10th --Sunday--First Game (see Team Pages on for schedule after September 3, 2018) shirts distributed at BIP prior to your first game.

October 21, end of season tournament. October 28, make up end of season (if necessary)

For 2018, we will have the following age divisions: Machine Pitch, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14 age groupings.  Players will play in the age group for the 2019 season.

Fall Ball games are played every Sunday, with very few (if any) practices. Practice is typically 1 hour before the game. Some teams can choose to hold practice once a week, however, the expectation is that players are playing other sports like soccer, football, etc. to be well rounded players.

The 7/8 year old’s play one game every Sunday, 6 to 8 games total. Shirts are included (red and white) in $125.00 registration fees and "End of Season" tournament included for all teams.

The 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 year old’s play double headers every Sunday, 12-16 games per season.  Shirts are included (red and white) in $185.00 registration fees and "End of Season" tournament included for all teams. Coaches can request afternoon only games for those families that want to attend church on Sunday mornings. Our scheduler will do her best to accommodate.

Are you interested in machine pitch?

Machine pitch is a great way to develop young players (6-8 year old’s). Typically the kids see more consistent pitching and are taught that they have to hit (no walks). Shirts are included (red and white) in $125.00 registration fees and "End of Season" tournament included for all teams.

Make sure you register under the Machine Pitch specific registration.

This creates a great environment to develop skills in the field as well, as you see many more fielding opportunities because kids are hitting and not walking. Machine pitch is not for very beginners, players should be able to throw, catch, and play baseball for the length of a game (1.5 hours).

If you are interested in machine pitch, email Candice Smith at:

1. What are the dates for the Fall Baseball Season? The Fall Baseball season starts with practices are optional during the week of August 27th. Games will start Sunday, September 9th and will run through Sunday, October 14th. No games on Labor Day weekend. The season will end with a 1-day tournament on Sunday, October 21st. In case of inclement weather that day, we will play the tournament on the following Sunday, October 28th.

2. What days will Fall Baseball games be played? Games are only played on Sundays ONLY. Players in the 7/8 age group and Machine Pitch will play single games and players age 9/10-11/12-13/14 will play doubleheaders (2 games on the same day).

3. What age groups can play baseball in the Fall Baseball Season? We will have 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14 age groups this year. Players will play at the age that they will play in the following Spring/Summer. For example, a player who is now 10 years old and will play next Spring at age 11, will play on a 11/12 team this Fall. The idea is to give the players a taste of what they will encounter next Spring. Machine pitch will be offered for 7/8 year old’s, in addition to kid pitch division.

4. What if I want to bring in a full or partial team? If your team wants you, then so do we! Follow the steps below:

a) Register the coach's son and pay the fee in full. b) Make sure that each of the players puts the coach's name down in the "coach request" box when they register online. c) Send a list of the player’s names to Candice Smith  Secretary and Shawn Williamson , fall baseball Director tp ensure that your entire team will be kept together.

5. Can I request a coach or play with a friend? Yes, we will do our best to accomodate all requests, however, no guarantees. Just list the coaches or players first/last name upon registration.

6. What is the cost per player for the Fall Baseball program? Registration fees are $125/player for ages 7-8 and $185/player for ages 9-14 kid pitch program. Machine pitch will be available for 8 and under and registration fees are $125 per player and register with your home area. Contact your area Fall Ball coordinator for more details.

7. Where will the Fall Baseball games be played and what time do they start? All games are played at Broomfield Community Park, Broomfield Industrial Park, Brighton Ron Cox, BSC, BYBA, Northern Lights Fields and Arvada Area fields.
